Cat behaviour can be a little weird sometimes and this sudden change can be a little frustrating to the pet owner too. But it can also be a signal that something is not right for your pet. It can be because they are anxious, scared or sick.
Here are 4 common reasons why your cat is acting a little weird:
Depressed
Depression is also present in felines. Just like how humans act when for instance lost a loved one or maybe just had a breakup, cats also act similarly when they too lost a loved one or things like so.
If you noticed that your cat does not touch his food or treat, stay under the bed most of the time, and just acting a little weird than his usual, then he might be having depression.
What you can do:
Pet your cat gently. Give him food or treat while caressing him and talking to him in a soothing voice. Just like humans, they need to be taken care of and they need to feel loved.
Scared
If you notice your cat acting uneasy, running and shrieking across the room and peeing everywhere, he might be scared of something. It can be your dog if you have one, or maybe another cat.
What you can do:
Make sure that your cat has his little sanctuary where he can stay all day without the presence of other pets that might cause his fear. Also, remember to pet them often so they can divert their attention and energy rather than running around feeling threatened or scared.
Stressed
Cats are prone to feeling stressed too. If moving to a new home can be a little stressful for you, it can also be for your cat. New place, unfamiliar scent, uncomfortable space and new routines can cause cats to feel stressed or anxious. Especially, if you don’t get to pet them as often as you normally could being busy with moving or maybe with your new job.
What you can do:
When moving to a new home, make sure that you bring something that familiar to your cat. It could be his same toys, same bed and litterbox. By having something familiar and comfortable with him, moving can be less stressful. Also, make sure to secure him in a less cluttered place.
Sick
If you notice your cat is not his usual self; not eating or touching his food or treat, hiding most of the time, sleeping more than his usual sleeping hours, drinking less water or generally had a massive change of temperament, there’s something wrong with your cat and he could be sick.
What you can do:
There is nothing better than to seek your vet’s advice in times like this just to make sure that you detect early signs of symptoms to avoid things from getting worse.
Cats being happy, fun, and energetic pets, pet parents tend to not notice these changes easily. Thus, as a pet parent, it is your responsibility to check on your cat from time to time.
Be proactive. If you know that your household is going through massive changes of some sort, check on your pets and make sure they are secure.
