Summer is coming! Who is excited?
As the hot summer days come, it is only reasonable that we find ways to get up and out of the house and that includes your pets.
As the weather kicks it up a notch, the natural tendency can be to get everyone up and out of the house—pets included.
Spending more time outdoors can be fun and a great way to exercise, hot summer days can also be uncomfortable not just for you but for your pet as well.
To help your pet enjoy their summer without the danger of irritation and the worse – heat stroke, here are 5 tips to keep your pets safe and cool during summer.
Keep them hydrated
Pets can get dehydrated fast, so you’ll want to prepare lots of fresh, clean water available to them around the house or when planning to stay longer outdoors.
Avoid peak hours
When walking, exercising your dogs, or staying outside, avoid heat peak hours to protect your dogs from extreme heat. Also, make sure to find some shade when outdoors to keep them cool.
Bathe them regularly
One of the best ways to fight the heat waves during summer is to bathe them regularly. This will condition their body better during hot days.
Paw Care
Another way to keep your dogs safe during hot weather is to keep their paws cool with water. Your dogs regulate their body temperature by discharging heat through their paws and in between their toes. When walking outside, keep in mind to avoid hot roads or asphalt.
Understand the danger
As a pet owner, you have to understand the danger that heat can inflict on your pets. Know the causes, the ways to prevent them, and identify the symptoms especially for heatstroke. Heatstroke can be fatal, so if you deem your dog is heating, move your pet to a cool place and call your veterinarian immediately.
