Whether indoors or outdoors, as the pet parent, you have to make water available for them. Especially when you’re going for a walk or hike.
Know your dog
The very first thing you can do to avoid dehydration is to know your dog’s heat limit. You should know that as a pet parent different dog breeds and sizes have different heat tolerance too. Some dogs easily overheat compared to others and some can’t endure long periods outdoors, especially during summer. Thus, you must know your dog’s heat limit so you can already avoid circumstances that can cause them to dehydrate.
Check out the weather
If you plan to take your dog for a walk, hike or just to go to your fave restaurant, you have to know the weather and take your dog for the coldest time. Usually, very early in the morning or past 4 in the afternoon. Going out in the middle of a busy hot day can cause severe exhaustion and dehydration. If you’re out and about, make them rest from time to time, and be best if you could find some shaded areas to rest.
Add water to food
On hot days, what you can also do is add more water to their food or at least make it a little wetter. But you have to switch from dry to wet from time to time and also check whether they would eat a portion of wet food. If not, then just make sure you put water beside their food all the time.
Make water accessible around the house
Always keep water accessible around the house for your dogs and also make sure that they know where to find them so they can just drink water anytime they like. Always remember to fill up their water container before leaving.
Bring water anywhere
When you go out when you’re the dog, always bring water with you. There are specially made containers in the market out there for your pets which you can use to bring water with you anywhere. Even though you’re sure there is water accessible to the place you go, it’s always great that you have your water with you. You just don’t know when they’ll ask for some hydration.
Dehydration can result in severe risks for your pets hence, it is something you should keep in mind too. Your dog will be a lot happier when they are healthy and cared for.
