Cat fights can become aggressive for many reasons. It can be emotional, behavioral, and physical reasons. But whatever the reason is, as a fur parent, you have to know how to manage cat aggression as it won’t be easy to put up especially if you have many cats at home.
Here are 6 tips to help you manage cat aggression at home:
Play with them
Cats can be quite aggressive to people they don’t like or get to hang out with often. So, take some time to introduce yourself to the cat and spend more playtime with them. But avoid using your hands or feet when playing with them. Instead, offer toys or treats to them.
Create a friendly cat environment
If you have several cats and they seem to fight often and are aggressive to each other, try to ease the competition between them. Provide multiple food and water bowls as well as litter boxes for them. Also, make sure you give them enough toys that they can all play with.
Consider spaying and neutering
Intact males are more prone to aggression and one aggressive cat can affect everyone’s behavior. So, make sure all felines in your household are either spayed or neutered.
Give them space
If you have a multi-cat household, making sure that they all have their respective spaces, can significantly lessen aggression. Make sure to create spread-out hiding spots and perches for your cats throughout your household; these can help them stay calm and avoid catfights.
Restrain cat aggression
Aggression is common for cats, but remember to not hit your cat for it as it will only cause more aggression and fear. Just make sure you control the cat’s aggression by making a loud noise to get their attention, or squirting them with water but never use your hands to physically pull them apart.
Consult your vet
One of the reasons why cats become suddenly aggressive is a serious illness, so if you’ve already done the above-mentioned tips and they are still aggressive then, it’s time to give your vet a visit.
As a fur pet parent, it is your responsibility to pay attention to your cat’s behavior. You want to make sure that you keep the order in the house and at the same time, make sure you check on them regularly to avoid serious risks.
