What’s great about yoga is that it’s perfect for beginners. The preparation is simple, and it requires very little other than yourself. However, if you are a beginner, it’s always a good idea to familiarize yourself with some of the things you need to know before joining your first class.
Here are a few other tips that you should keep in mind:
Familiarize the basic poses
As part of your preparation, it’s better that you familiarize yourself with the basic poses so when you come to your first class, the first part would be easy peasy. It’s very easy to search for common yoga poses, just go to YouTube and you have everything you need to know. If you can practice in advance, that would be great!
Get to know your yoga instructor
Get to know who the instructor is. It’s important that you feel comfortable with your instructor and it’s the instructor that you trust. What you can do is take a visit to one of the instructor’s classes first so you can observe how the instructor handles his/her class. That way, you get to see and feel if it’s the class you wanted to be part of. Also, make sure that you let your instructor know that you are a complete beginner.
Avoid heavy meals before class
Yoga is a subtle yet physical activity. It’s good to remember not to eat heavy meals before your class so you feel comfortable moving and you won’t feel sick. Just eat a light meal or snack an hour or two before your class and don’t forget to bring a bottle of water to keep you hydrated.
Come in early
And just like going to school the first time, you want to make sure you get acquainted with your yoga classmates. Come in early in your first class and say hi to other students. Get familiar with the place and find a comfortable space around the room to lay your mat for when the class starts.
Set yourself up
Before the start of your class, make sure you warm up a little. Although, warming up is part of the program, but it’s still good that you do stretching. Set your mat properly and at least 5 minutes before the start, make sure you have gone to the bathroom to avoid the disruption of having to excuse from the class.
First-class is always a little nerve-racking but sure fun. So, make sure to have fun and just remember these 5 tips before your first class.
