Litter box odor can be the hardest thing to put up when living with a cat. However, as the fur parent, you want to take full responsibility for it as you can do something to manage the odor and keep it clean.
Here are 5 tips you can do to keep your cat’s litter box clean:
Smartly position the box
The position of your box can play a major role in how you can manage its odor. Putting it in an enclosed area can make the odor spread around the space. What you can do, is to make sure it is positioned in an area with proper ventilation. This will prevent the smell to concentrate.
Scoop it whenever you can
Old feces and urine may not be as pungent as the fresh ones but the more they sit in there, the more their smell gets bad. To manage the smell of your cat’s litter box, scoop it whenever you can.
Wash it at least twice a week
Even just a tiny bit can still smell your entire house. So, even if you scoop it whenever you can, you can still miss something in there. What you can do then, is dump out the litter at least twice a week and wash the box with soap and warm water.
Use deodorizers
Managing the litter box odor also has some quick fix and one of them is to add baking soda or deodorizer directly to the litter box. with just a little amount, it can go a long way in keeping the smell at a minimum level. However, you have to make sure that you only use the unscented ones as other cats may find it uncomfortable and they may stop using their litter box.
Replace the litter box yearly
Over time your cat’s litter box can become harder to clean as its claws create little grooves on them making the odor stay longer. Thus, it is always a smart idea to replace their litter box at least once a year.
