A free ebook is a fabulous way to showcase your expertise and contribute value to your potential customers. But for most small business owners, finding the ample time to put together an ebook is really hard. And not to mention, the writing process.
A good length for a free e-book is around 3500 to 5000 words. Since it’s a free e-book, you don’t need to be very detailed. The aim is to give your potential customers a sneak peek of what you do and what you can do to solve their problems. However, make sure it has value.
Here are our simple and actionable tips so you could actually start writing your first E-book this new year.
- Before you start writing, make sure that you are comfortably settled or located in your house, office or somewhere you feel like most inspired to write. Note: This doesn’t finish in one sitting of course.
- When you actually start to write, just let your mind flow and write, write, write. Don’t worry about the grammar, spelling or punctuations yet. The goal is to allow your mind to process spontaneously to come up with more ideas.
- If you feel like tired, lost focus or gut stuck in the middle of writing, take some time to breathe, relax and stretch a little. Give your mind some time to rest or continue the next day if you need to.
- Turn off your phone or get away from your laptop and use pen and paper instead if you struggle to stay focused because of email notifications, texts, phone calls etc.
- Create little notes for yourself along the way as you write. This will help you during editing. It could be a synonym of a word, a supporting detail or a link you want to insert etc.
After writing your copy, it’s now time for editing.
The easiest way to edit your copy is to use online tools. There are a lot of online tools available that are efficient in editing copies for checking grammar, spelling, punctuations and even plagiarism.
On the other hand, if you want to edit manually you are of course free to do so. The trick is if you want to check grammar and punctuations, read the copy as is that is from top to the bottom. But if you want to check the spelling, scan your copy from bottom to top.
Moreover, you have to consider the readability of your copy as well. Make sure that you cut the big chunks to small pieces so it’s easier for the readers to digest.
Lastly, support your copy with images or videos and even ask questions along the way just to make it more fun and interactive.
