WordPress Update: Site Health Feature and More!

The newest update of WordPress, version 5.1, is now readily available, giving users with features for better site developments and site health.

One of the key current features in their newest release is a check to alert users if they are operating with the older, unsupported versions of PHP programming language.

“Following WordPress 5.0 — a major release which introduced the new block editor — 5.1 focuses on polish, in particular by improving the overall performance of the editor. In addition, this release paves the way for a better, faster, and more secure WordPress with some essential tools for site administrators and developers.” Matt Mullenweg WordPress founder said.

With the newest release, WordPress aims to provide better services to its users by adding the following features:

Site Health

  • WordPress warns the administrators that run outmoded versions of PHP
  • Determines if a plugin needs a version of PHP conflicting with your site and will not enable installation if so.

Improved Editor Performance

  • Speed up the editor performance for a smoother and more responsive experience.
  • Improved taxonomy sanitization

Moreover, WordPress also added new developer tools which include:

Updated Cron API

  • New JavaScript build processes
  • Multisite metadata
  • And other miscellaneous additions
